A brief snowstorm could bring another inch of snow to the Northeast

A fast-moving storm is heading into northern Minnesota and Wisconsin from Canada on Tuesday and is expected to move over the Great Lakes region to dump 3 to 6 inches on the region.
The brief storm is expected to move to the northeast around midnight Wednesday and reach Pittsburgh around 1 a.m. followed by Philadelphia and New York City around 5 a.m.
Snow will end in Philadelphia and New York City a few hours later at around 11am on Wednesday, while snow will end around 1pm in Boston with some snow showers continuing overnight over inland New England.
All three cities should expect no more than an inch of snow to accumulate, including Rhode Island, where 2.5 feet of snow continues to be cleared as of Monday.
However, 1 to 3 inches of snow may be possible inland, with up to 3 to 6 inches of snow seen at higher elevations in the Northeast.
Elsewhere, a storm currently battering the Pacific Northwest will move across the country in the coming days, and is expected to push south due to high pressure over the northern United States as it moves east.

This will bring rain to the upper South Thursday morning, with heavy rain possible in Kentucky, Tennessee and east across North Carolina.
On Thursday evening, rain could be heavy in Tennessee as the storm moves north along the mid-Atlantic into Virginia, Delaware and Maryland.
By around 9pm Thursday, there is a possibility that this moisture will be somewhere between Washington, D.C. and New York City, with a possible wintry mix that could make roads slippery.
If temperatures drop enough, snow is also possible Thursday night in the area between Washington, D.C., and New York City. This could bring a few inches of wet snow to the New York area, northern New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania by Friday morning.
The system is expected to move out of the area by midday Friday, and by the afternoon, the weather may be dry and a bit warmer with highs in the upper 30s.
Temperatures will reach the upper 30s and lower 40s this week in New York City and Boston as well, meaning some of the snow that blanketed the area may begin to melt with the potential to refreeze overnight.
